Namibia Special Risks Insurance Association Limited (NASRIA) LTD was established and registered as a Section 21 in 1987, in response to the cancellation of insurance cover previously available to the conventional insurance market for acts of terrorism and politically motivated acts. In 2019, NASRIA was converted from an Association not for gain into a public company through the act of parliament, Act no. 5 of 2017, to open doors and offer more insurance solutions to the Namibian public. NASRIA Ltd is a 100% state-owned insurance company and resorts under the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprise. NASRIA Ltd is registered as a Short-term Special Risks Insurance company and regulated by NAMFISA within the non-banking financial sector.

Our Mandate:

In terms of the NASRIA Act, the Company is mandated to fulfill the following objectives:

To carry on short-term insurance business relating to special risks, and to conduct all affairs relating thereto in accordance with sound insurance practices and methods.

To promote the development of, and the participation of the people of Namibia in the short-term insurance industry in Namibia.

To adhere to best practice in the provision of insurance cover for special risks.

Business Purpose:

NASRIA’s current business purpose is to provide insurance cover for Namibians and their assets against extraordinary (special) events such as, but not limited to, riots, strikes, civil commotion, labour disturbances, lockouts, and terrorism. Moreover, the company has expanded its focus into Climate Change risks solutions and has designed a Weather Index-Based Livestock insurance and Human Wildlife Insurance products for farmers.
